How do I get started?
To use Magiq, there are 4 easy steps:
1. open an account
2. Choose the Magiq products you want to use
3. Set up the rules to control how they operate (by hiring some gnomes to do the work and giving them some instructions)
4. include the Magiq file into your web pages.

What's all this about Gnomes?
Because the technology behind Magiq is unimportant and invisible we have decided to represent it as a community we know as “Magiq’s Marketing Gnomes”. You can learn more here - but just think of the Gnomes as being helpful little people who will take instructions from you on how you want Magiq to work, and execute your wishes tirelessly- until you fire them, give them a break or they run out of money!
Does Magiq work on any site?
Most sites will be able to use Magiq straight away. It uses normal JavaScript so it will work in almost all browsers too. The apps can work on any pages, even dynamic and secure ones, perfectly safely.
There are some situations where the gnomes will have trouble. If, for example, they have trouble telling which pages are to be worked on (say, because all have exactly the same URL). In this case we can help you weave some special Magiq to overcome the problem - if you get stuck please contact us.
The Magiq Management App will help you identify the objects in the page you want the gnomes to work on, but to be able to identify them they either need to be images or "HTML named elements". If you can't seem to select the element you want to change, then you probably need to give it an HTML element name or ID (your page designers should be able to help you with that.)
We can make Magiq work on your Flash movies or other rich media applications - but you will need to contact one of our real-life Gnomes to help out!
Do I have to connect Magiq to my customer database?
No, you don't need a customer database - Magiq will build one for you and then use the data to help you do relevant things for individual customers or key groups and segments.
How quickly does it start working ?
It starts as soon as you want it to start! Open your account and the system will be ready to go as soon as we send you your Magiq File. Once the Magiq file is in your web pages Magiq starts compiling the visitor data it needs. As soon as you choose the apps you want to use and provide the Gnomes some instructions the Magiq will start to happen...
You could be weaving your own Magiq later today!
How much does it cost?
We charge you for the things Magiq does for you - like keeping customer records or personalizing page content. Our pricing and charging is described Price List. You are charged a minimum monthly fee for your account, and then on a usage basis. You can spend your minimum charge on any of Magiq's products. You can set spending limits for each app and gnome.

Will my website be affected by using Magiq Solutions?
No. Magiq's apps include a number of safeguards to ensure that your site is not impacted by its presence. If for any reason our systems cannot work their Magiq then they will do nothing - leaving your site and pages just as you designed them. (We use it on Magiq.com - see how quickly that runs!).
But you also get the opportunity to preview the changes Magiq's gnomes will make when you are hiring them and giving them rules via the Magiq Management App.
Privacy
What about the privacy of my customers?
Magiq only collects data voluntarily provided by your visitors to your site.
There are three items of data Magiq needs to work:
1 - The visitor's network address (IP address) to figure out where in the world they are and the organization providing their network connections.
2 - The search terms visitors use when visiting your sites (so Magiq knows their interests).
3 - Any e-mail address they provide you with - so you can contact them when Magiq thinks you have something to say.
These items of information are stored in the individual visitor records which your record-keeping gnome creates in the customer database she runs for you.
We will never provide the data to anyone else, and we will keep it safe in our data centers. See our Privacy Policy for more details. You might also want to review our Terms & Conditions.
Also each account is held on a discrete instance, so your data will not get mixed up with anyone else's.
How does Magiq get my customers' e-mail addresses?
If visitors enter an e-mail address while browsing your website Magiq will see it and pick it up and store it against their record - simple huh!
This means two things:
1 - there need to be places on your site where people enter their e-mail address (e.g. to request a newsletter or register etc.)
2 - if there are places on your site where visitors are asked to enter other peoples' e-mail addresses you need to tell us, so we can train your gnomes to ignore those addresses.
Security
Is it secure?
Yes. All information is stored in a secure environment. All the interactions between Magiq and your site's users are encrypted (using a light-weight encryption in non-secure pages and SSL in secure ones).
Your Magiq environment (your "instance") is unique to your account - to ensure your customer data is separate from anyone else's. Access to your environment is via the management app which we provide you with on sign up, and is password protected.
Obviously you need to take care of your password, choose ones which cannot be easily guessed, and change it regularly.
You can provide other people (like your agency) with access to your account, just send them to your account home page to download their own copy of the management app.

What's to stop someone registering a Magiq account for my site and hacking it?
Magic can only work once the Magic File has been added to your pages. To do that the hacker would have to have complete access to your Web Servers. Your site/data centre/ISP security should stop that happening! So there should be no worries...
However, don't forget you need to keep your Magiq Management App safe, guard its password and don't give out your instance home page to people you do not know. Remember, you are the only person who knows your password - neither we nor the gnomes do (so don't forget it!).
What happened to my customer records if I close my account?
We will delete all your customer history (for security) and close your "instance" so all your gnomes and their instructions will be deleted too. This data cannot be retrieved.
Therefore please think carefully before closing your account.
Account & Billing Matters
How can I see how much I am spending?
You can view and set budgets and see your current spending via the Magiq Management App.
How do I know which gnomes are working well?
Your Magiq Management App provides statistics on which Gnomes are working. Including how often they have checked pages to see if they needed changing, how often they have changed things, how much they have spent, how much they will spend by the end of the month (billing period etc.), what the current budget you have set them etc.
By looking at these reports and your web analytics data you should be able to see how well things are going We are thinking that perhaps Magiq might offer some more reporting, if you think so too then please comment at on the forum.
If I want to stop using the service how do I switch it off?
Call the Magiq support desk contact number and quote your account number. We will close your account for you at the end of the month and bill you at that time for your current month's usage.
When your account is closed we will delete all your visitor history. For security purposes, this cannot be retrieved, so please think carefully before you cancel your account.

Seriously though, Magiq uses advanced AJAX-like technology to understand what your visitor is doing on your website in real-time and uses this to compile a history for each individual visitor.
Armed with this data and some rules (either set by the system or defined by you) it will automatically undertake useful tasks.
Each Magiq app undertakes a different task. So, for example, Chameleon adjusts your landing pages for each customer so they are show more relevant content (using your rules), while Prospect searches the customer files that Magiq builds to alert you about visitors who look ready to buy!
One of Magiq's great strengths is that it is 'tag-free™' so once you have included the Magiq file in your site you will have no more changes to make! You can change the apps you use, change the way they operate, change their budget's and never again have to change anything on the site!
Do I have to do anything special to my site to use Magiq?
No, it does not need any special software, or particular web servers etc. The ONLY thing you need to do is to include the Magiq File in your pages. Much like you would include the Google Analytics tag. Here's a video about installing Magiq
Just remember that is the last change you will need to make to your site - after that Magiq will do it all for you!
